Gundlupet (Chamarajanagar): In a daring daylight incident, the car of a gold trader traveling from Mysuru to Kerala was intercepted and robbed on the road in front of the KEB office in Begur here.

The gold trader, named Sukhdev, hailing from Kalpetta, Kerala, had just completed a gold sale in Mysuru. Alongside his driver, Ashraf, he was on his way back to Kerala in a Honda City car. The robbers assaulted the duo and fled with the car and a sum of Rs 40 lakhs.

5 Arrested:

To evade the police, the robbers employed a strategy of driving three cars in one direction, while a separate car was advancing near Somahalli. However, things took a turn when the latter car collided with a stone due to the driver’s loss of control.

At this moment, the robbers abandoned the car and attempted to flee.

With the help of local residents, the Begur police managed to apprehend five suspects from Kerala, and they also seized the Innova car with a Kerala registration.

A case related to this incident has been officially recorded at the Begur police station.

Promptly following the robbery, the police swiftly set up roadblocks in Chamarajanagar, Gundlupet, Begur, and Terkanambi, and initiated thorough checks on all passing vehicles. However, the Honda City car in which Sukhdev the gold merchant was travelling is yet to be located.

The Begur police force has subjected the five detained suspects to a thorough investigation.

Superintendent of Police Padmini Sahoo and Inspector General of Police M B Boralingaiah visited the police station and the scene of the incident. They instructed the authorities to expedite the inquiry and take appropriate measures to apprehend the remaining individuals involved in the case.
