After facing backlash from various quarters due to skyrocketing prices of essential commodities chief minister Basavaraj Bommai rejected a request to hike the milk price.

Karnataka Milk Federation chairman and Arabhavi MLA Balachandra Jarkiholi had cited the pressure of inflation on farmers and requested the chief minister to consider the Federation’s proposal to hike the price.

Milk prices were last hiked by Rs 2 per litre in January 2020.

Reportedly, the KMF had sought the government’s nod to hike the milk prices by up to Rs 3.

On Wednesday, September 29 CM Basavaraj Bommai speaking after inaugurating 10 new projects of the KMF had aimed at further boosting the milk production and revenue of the 14 associated cooperative unions.

On the demand for enhancing the rates of milk to make help the milk-producing farmers and the cooperative milk producing farmers associations, the Chief Minister said he is aware of the situation and about the rates in different States.

“However, it is a difficult situation to take any decision as various factors had to be taken into account,” he added.
