Brahmavar woman loses over Rs 16L in online fraud, case filed

A woman from Brahmavar filed a police complaint alleging that she was cheated of Rs 16,89,862 by an Instagram user after promising to send her iPhone, gold and US currency.
The complainant, Laveena Jenifer Moras said that the person whose Instagram profile is ‘Jovan-871’ had claimed to be a doctor based in Canada. He had promised to send an iPhone, gold and US currency to the complainant on October 2. Later Laveena got a call from a person who said he is a Customs officer and asked her to pay the amount for parcel charges and money lending certificate charges.
An unsuspecting Laveena did as directed and transferred the amount to the bank account given by the fraudsters.
Later when she realised that she had been cheated, she filed a complaint at Udupi CEN police station.
