Mandya: A 33-year-old CRPF personnel hailing from Mandya was martyred in the audacious terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama when a Jaish suicide bomber rammed a vehicle carrying over 100 kg of explosives into CRPF convoy on Thursday.

Guru, son of Honnayya from Gudigere village in Maddur taluk of the district, was among the over 2,500 jawans travelling in the convoy of 78 vehicles, many of them returning from leave to rejoin duty in the Valley when they were ambushed by the militants on the Srinagar-Jammu highway at around 3.15 pm.

Guru, who had married just six months back, was a member of the 82nd battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). He was deployed in Jharkhand before being posted in Kashmir.

Meanwhile, the mortal remains of martyred CRPF personnel, including Guru will be sent to their homes across the country this afternoon, officials said on Friday.
