Brijesh Chowta urges parliamentary support for Mangaluru-Subrahmanya train line; Railway Min responds

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta has urged the Parliament to start a passenger train service between Mangaluru and Subrahmanya.

Historically, there was a passenger train service between Mangaluru and Subrahmanya when the line was meter gauge. This service was discontinued in 2005 to convert the line to broad gauge. Since then, the broad gauge line has been completed. Currently, the passenger train operates between Mangaluru and Kabaka-Puttur, and MP Chowta is pushing for its extension to Subrahmanya.

Reinstating the train service between Mangaluru and Subrahmanya would greatly benefit students and commuters in Dakshina Kannada district. Many people travel daily from the rural areas of Sullia to Mangaluru. This would be the only passenger train operating within the South Western Railway division in the district, serving the local population’s needs.

Chowta has appealed to the Railway Minister to extend the train service to Subrahmanya for the benefit of the general public. In response, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed his respect for Captain Brijesh Chowta, a retired army officer, and assured that any railway-related requests can be discussed personally with him, and he is open to resolving such issues.
