Brother murders widowed sister over ‘illicit affairs’

Bengaluru: A 32-year-old widow was stabbed to death on Friday by her own younger brother over the woman’s illicit affairs with other men. 

The deceased, Sumaiya Shaheen, was a mother of four. Sumaiya, after her husband’s in an accident around four years ago, was living in a rented house alone in Thanisandra, while her four children aged between 8 to13 years were studying in a residential madrasa in the city. 

Sumaiya was part-time teacher and had fights with her sibling Ataullah (30) over her illegal affairs. The police said that Ataullah, an occupant of Sulibele in Hoskote taluk and a perfume dealer, had on numerous events cautioned Sumaiya which ended in fights. 

Around 4 pm on Friday, Ataullah along with his friend Shadab went to Sumaiya’s home and started a fight. It turned brutal and in the heat of the argument, Ataullah stabbed Sumaiya brutally killing her on the spot. The accused and his companion fled the scene and hid in Hosakote. 

Around 7 am, Sumaiya’s another brother Abdul saw her main door open and spotted bloodstains. He went inside to check and discovered her lying in a pool of blood. He instantly informed the police who hurried to the spot and moved the body to a hospital for the postmortem. 

Ataullah was captured by the Hennur police. While Ataullah is in police custody and has admitted to the crime, his friend Shadab is absconding. The police who registered a case are in search for Shadab.
