Udupi: A court in Kundapura rejected the anticipatory bail application filed by the policemen accused of assaulting the host and the guests at a Mehandi function at Kotathattu Gram Panchayat.

After hearing the arguments, Kundapura District and Sessions Court here rejected the plea of seven policemen, including SI and a head constable for granting anticipatory bail.

A video had surfaced in December last year, showing Kota police assaulting the guests at a pre-wedding Mehandi function at Koraga Colony in Kotathattu.

Later, Kota police sub-inspector Santhosh was suspended for allegedly using brute force to stop a pre-wedding function over complaints about the loud music. The five policemen who used lathis on the guests, including the women and children at the function were also transferred with immediate effect.
