Former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court seeking to dismiss a sexual harassment case against him.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Wednesday issued a notice to Yediyurappa to appear before its probe team for an inquiry in connection with a POCSO case registered against him.
According to police, Yediyurappa has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act and Section 354 A (Sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) based on a complaint by the mother of a 17-year-old girl who alleged that he sexually assaulted her daughter during a meeting on February two this year.
The veteran BJP leader, who is presently in Delhi, has denied the charge and has sought time to appear for the probe. In his petition, Yediyurappa claimed that the complainant has a history of making false accusations.
He stated that he cooperated with a police inquiry on April 12, soon after the FIR was filed. However he said that the officers only collected an audio sample of his voice without officially recording his statement.
