Mangaluru: A assistant sub-inspector (ASI) attached to the Bunder police station has been suspended after an internal inquiry into the alleged atrocities committed by him on a person named Ashraf Salethur.
The suspended inspector is Chandrashekhar.
Ashraf, 35, had in a FaceBook post on August 19 questioned the bizarre statements of those who linked the Kerala floods to the SC verdict on women’s entry to Sabarimala and beef consumption in the state by questioning the reason for floods in Tulu Nadu created by Parashurama.
A suo moto case had been registered against Ashraf under Section 153 and 505(2) in this connection. He was taken into custody on October 22 this year and produced before the court which remanded him to judicial custody till October 28. Even after Ashraf came out of jail, having secured bail, he questioned the injustice meted out to him by the police through social media.
Meanwhile, members of few organisations approached city police commissioner T R Suresh and district in-charge minister questioning registration of Suo motu case against Ashraf and the atrocities committed on him. An internal inquiry was taken and it was decided to suspend the ASI, it is gathered.
