Burglars tie-up couple, ransack house at Kolake

Karkala: Burglars gained access to a a house at Kolake in Iruvathur village of the taluk and took away cash and ornaments after tying up the aged couple living in the house, on the night of Tuesday September 3.
The couple identified as Harish Bhat and his wife Sreelaxmi were watching television programmes when someone called out Bhat by his surname. When he opened the door, the robbers barged into the house and bound the limbs of Harish Bhat and his wife with plastic tag. Laxmi was gagged with clothes. one of the intruders also pointed a pistol at Bhat’s face and threatened to use the weapon if the couple shouted for help.
The burglras then made off with a a gold chain weighing three sovereigns, a Lord Shiva pendant, a pair of ear lobes and Rs 3,000 in cash. The worth of the assets stolen by the robbers is estimated to be around Rs 1,26,000.
District superintendent of police, Nisha James, and senior officials visited the spot and directed the investigation, while the rural police here have registered the complaint.
