Bus brake fail: several vehicles damaged, people injured

Bondel: A private city bus crashed into a car, a tempo and a bike after its brakes failed near Pachhanady bridge and railway track. 13 people have been injured in this incident.
The injured are identified as Jayanth, Koosappa, Abdul Rehman, Marcel Menezes, Gregory, Abhinav, Mukunda Bhat, Maxil, Prajwal Fernandes, Karunakar Shetty and Mahalinga who have been admitted to a private hospital and are said to be out of danger, informed the police.
On Saturday Dec 22 around 6:30 pm in the evening, Fathima bus was en-route to Pachhanady when its brakes failed to work at an incline here resulting in the vehicle falling into a pit and stopping after hittin a tree.
The tempo had broken down
A Tata Ace tempo which was going towards Padavinangady from Pachhanady broke down in the middle of the road near the incline. As a few people were assisting to push the vehicle to the side of the road, the fateful bus arrived from the opposite side, its brakes failed and crashed into the tempo. At the same instance, a car and a bike coming in the opposite direction also became part of the accident. Most of the people who were assisting in pushing the vehicle suffered injuries. The car driver, bike rider and a few in the bus also suffered injuries. The force of the impact was such that the Tata Ace tempo toppled while the car also suffered damages.
Localites provide help
Balakrishana, a localite and other locals helped in pulling out the inhabitants of the car and shifting them to the hospital. The passengers in the bus were sent in another vehicle.
A case has been registered by Traffic South police station.
