Udupi: Service and express buses will restart operations from July 1 in the Udupi district.
This was decided in a meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office between the DC G Jagadeesha, MLA Raghupati Bhat and bus service operators.
“We have decided to launch bus operations in the district from July 1. All COVID-19 guidelines will be followed. Only 50 per cent passengers will be allowed to travel in buses. Bus fares will be increased by 25 per cent. On July 1, about 30 per cent of the buses will start operations, said Kuilady Suresh Nayak, president of the Udupi City Bus Operators Association.
Udupi RTO JP Gangadhar said that as the permission is to carry 50 per cent passengers so a fare hike was allowed. This will apply during the COVID-19 period. Once 100 per cent passengers are allowed then the fares will be reduced.
ADC Sadashiv Prabhu, State Bus Owners Federation member Sadananda Chhatra and others were present in the meeting.
