Mangaluru: In a major relief for passengers, travelling frequently between Mangaluru and Bengaluru the district administration has since today has thrown open Shiradi Ghat to all types of passenger vehicles; including multi-axle buses.

Following the imposition of restrictions on the vehicular movement on Shiradi Ghat from August 14, travellers were forced to opt for other routes, including the Charmadi Ghat route which is more time-consuming.

Later from September 5 onwards light motor vehicles like cars, jeeps, two-wheelers and maxi cabs were allowed to use this stretch while the ban continued to remain on goods vehicles like trucks & tankers and other heavy vehicles

Speaking to reporters here Deputy Commissioner Sasikant Senthil on Sunday had informed that a decision on movement of goods vehicles on the ghat would be taken after studying movement of the buses.
