The Election Commission of India has announced the date of by-election for the Karnataka Legislative Council from the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Local Authorities’ Constituency following the vacancy left by Kota Srinivas Poojary. The official announcement was made on September 19.

The voting will take place on October 21 from 8 AM to 4 PM, with the counting of votes scheduled for October 24. The last date for filing nominations is October 3. Candidates will have until October 7 to withdraw their nominations.

The by-election comes in the wake of the resignation of Kota Srinivas Poojary, who vacated his Council seat after being elected as the Member of Parliament from Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
