Byndoor: In an unusual case of theft reported from near Shiroor toll gate thieves stole five tyres from a parked lorry here when its owner was fast asleep.
The lorry, headed towards Mangaluru from Ankola was being driven by its owner Purushottam who was also accompanied by his son Sahil.
On Wednesday at around 11.30 pm the duo parked their vehicle near Shiroor toll gate and decided to take a rest before proceeding further. Purushottam thus set an alarm for 4 am the next day and they slept inside the lorry. However on Thursday when he put the lorry into gear the truck leaned towards one side.
Alarmed by this, Purushottam shut down the engine and got down to check the problem. He was shocked to find that five of the tyres, including the spare one, were missing. The cost of the stolen tyres is estimated at around Rs 1,85,000.
A case in this regard was filed with Byndoor police station. Police said that they have taken into custody ganja addicts who often spotted in the area for questioning.
A team has been formed to investigate the theft and appropriate action will be taken.
