Mangaluru: City police commissioner Dr. P S Harsha on Thursday said that criminal proceedings will be initiated against those spreading rumors and provoking people through social media platforms.
“Mischief mongers spreading hatred will not be spared.. we have already issued notices, will initiate criminal proceedings, prosecute and hold them liable for any damage to public property, peace and tranquility.. NO one should assume they are anonymous…” tweeted Dr. Harsha.

Noting that several messages, having the potential of spreading communal hatred were being circulated on social media, the commissioner warned that the department is maintaining a vigil on such messages and mischief mongers would be prosecuted under sections 153A and 295 of Indian Penal Code. FIRs will also be lodged against group admins, he said.
Earlier Dr Harsha had appealed people and organisations to express their opinions on the CAA issue within the boundaries of law and order.
