Bengaluru: The Karnataka Development Authority along with the Karnataka State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) has launched a campaign for the inclusion of Kannada language at ATMs across the state in accordance with the Centre’s directive to follow the three-language policy in banking transactions.
Recognizing the need to service people in the local language, the Centre had mandated banks to adopt the state regional language along with English and Hindi while offering services to their customers.
The Kannada option is particularly needed in rural areas, where majority of people haven’t yet adapted to mobile banking and aren’t well-versed in English and Hindi and are dependent on ATM kiosks for transactions.
Meanwhile, reports state that there has been no distinct response on the requests made by the state government as far as language options at ATMs is concerned.
