The world is feeling the need for yoga more than ever owing to the coronavirus pandemic. Yoga is helping large number of patients dealing with  Covid-19 across the globe.

Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), an autonomous body under the Ministry of AYUSH has imparted yoga training to around 6,500 Covid-19 positive patients. Out of these, the institute has compiled the data of around 200 patients, as part of a pilot project

It is said that the practice of Yoga is benefitting the Covid-19 patients across the country, in terms of enhancing the immunity, reducing the stress level

On the other hand, research is being conducted at the AIIMS, the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and the Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital (RGSSH) regarding the effect of yoga on  Covid-19 patients

According to India Tv, The study evaluates the effect of yoga, pranayama and relaxation, on stress, mood, sleep quality, symptom severity, quality of life and clinical outcomes in coronavirus patients

The study will include those diagnosed with COVID-19 through RT-PCR testing, have mild symptoms and are aged between 18 and 60 years

The report further states that the research involves a mobile application-based yoga intervention programme, using a novel technology  the Dozee sensor mat.

The sensor mat is placed under a patient’s mattress. It can figure how healthy the patient is or if he is developing any disorder like sleep apnea or heart disorders. It monitors the heart rate, the respiration rate, stress levels and sleep quality
