London: A special candle vigil condolence prayer was organized by the British Indian/ Kannada community and the Lambeth Basaveshwara foundation on January 21 following the sad demise of His Holiness Shri Shri Shiva Kumar Swamiji. They thanked Swami ji for supporting the statue project in London.
On February 17, 2013 Swamiji donated and blessed the Basaveshwara Statue project in London with a foundation stone to be placed underneath the Basaveshwara statue in London to The Former Mayor of The London Borough of Lambeth Dr Neeraj Patil. This foundation stone is embedded at the base of the statue during its construction.
The Basaveshwara statue erected at the Albert Embankment is not only the first statue to be unveiled by an Indian Prime Minister in the UK, but is also the first conceptual statue approved by the British Cabinet in the vicinity of the Parliament. This is located at Albert Embankment in London opposite the British Parliament.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the Basaveshwara statue on November 14 2015 and recently former Prime Minister H.D Devegowda on October 26 paid tribute to Basaveshwara statue.
Swamiji’s contribution to social work and eradication for child poverty in India is unparalleled and will always be remembered in India.
