Car catches fire: Mother, Son charred to death

Bengaluru: A 30- year old woman and her four year old son were killed when their Maruthi Ritz caught fire on Friday afternoon at Nallurahalli, near Whitefield, southeast Bengaluru.

The deceased has been identified as Neha Verma a housewife and her son Pram. They were the residents of Sumadhura Apartment at Nallurahalli. At 3:30 pm on Friday they drove into the basement. The security guards heard a loud noise after the car entered the basement.

They immediately rushed to the basement and found a car on fire. They tried to extinguish the fire by pouring water but the flames kept increasing. They called the fire and emergency services department and also informed the police. The fire fighters managed to douse the fire by 4pm but the mother and son were burnt to death.

The police are uncertain of the cause of fire. They said that no one knew the mother and son were in the car until they extinguished the fire. The police were shocked to see two bodies charred in the front seats. The deceased were identified after the police confirmed the ownership of the vehicle.

Over 100 families live in Sumadhura Apartment Complex where the incident took place. CCTVs are installed at the entry of the parking lot, and the police said they will go through the footages to find some clue about the fire.

Neha Varma’s husband Rajesh is a business man and was at work when the incident took place.
