Thekkatte: A Maruti Swift car was completely wrecked after colliding with 2 lorries near Sri Chandika Durgaparameshwari Temple on the National Highway NH-66 at Kumbashi here on January 12 at around 7 pm.

Ramachandra Ganiga, a bank employee from Hemmadi, was travelling in his Maruti Swift car from Kundapur towards Kota when a cow blocked the highway lane. In order to avoid hitting the cow, the car driver applied brakes suddenly. This resulted in a lorry hitting the rear of the car. The car later hit another lorry which was moving next to it.

The Maruti Swift car was completely damaged due to the intensity of the impact. Fortunately, there was no loss of life.

Locals said the lack of proper lighting in the village limits of Gopadi, Kumbashi, Kannukere, and other village limits on NH-66 has resulted in many accidents. Without the proper lighting, the motorists fail to notice pedestrians and stray cattle crossing the highway resulting in mishaps, they said.
