Kundapur: “Four police personnel, who supported illegal cattle trafficking are suspended. Black sheep are there in other departments also. But majority of police personnel are working honestly and sincerely, day and night, at the check post and highways,” said district superintendent of police Nisha James speaking to the media on Thursday, July 18 regarding the cattle theft case reported from the town.
“We all are working sincerely in the department. We have detained a 12-wheel lorry and an Indica car that was guiding the truck with the route. Six accused are arrested. Four have been taken to police custody,” she informed.
“Important points were noticed during the investigation. According to the accused, six policemen are involved in the act of illegal trafficking of cattle. I feel very disappointed that police personnel are also supporting the cattle theft. One should not generalize the department. Investigation will be held in a transparent manner,” she assured.
“We have clearly instructed to all the five accused that henceforth they should not get involved in any cases of cattle theft. A parade was called at sub-division level to warn them. If we come across any illegal activities, we will take action against them,” warned the SP.
“Armed head constable Santhosh Shetty, working at Malpe and the other four policemen namely Raghavendra, head constable, Kota station PSI Balasubrahmanya, DAF head constable Prashanth and constable Chandrashekhar are currently absconding,” informed Nisha.
“The four from Udupi district and two from Uttara Kannada district were hand in glove with the illegal cattle traffickers,” informed the SP and pointed out that the strength of the department is more than 1,000 and only four are accused.
