CBI sleuths arrest Deputy chief controller of explosives when accepting bribe

Mangaluru: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials from Bengaluru arrested an official who was accepting bribe of Rs 50000 from an employee of a private company reportedly for sending inspection report to the central office for renewal of licence of a company. The official and the employee of the private concern was also taken into custody on Tuesday September 24.
The arrested official is identified as S M Mannan, deputy chief controller of petroleum and explosives safety organization here and Rishab Desai is the employee of Sanghvi Cylinder Pvt Ltd Belagavi.
Apparently, the official had demanded for payment of bribe of Rs 50,000 for issuing inspection report required for the renewal of the licence of the said company and the report was required to be sent to the central office of petroleum and explosives safety organization at Nagpur. However, the CBI officials received a tip-off regarding this transaction and accordingly, the officials registered a case against government official, S M Mannan, Rishab Desai, and Shantakumar on Sep 22.
Later, CBI officials conducted a raid when Mannan was accepting money from Rishab Desai followed by raids at the official’s residence and office. During the raid, the officials recovered Rs 16 lakh in cash and documents pertaining to properties, it is said.
