CCB Arrests Senior Journalist Ravi Belagere, Admits to Hospital in Dharwad

Dharwad: Senior Journalist, Kannada weekly tabloid ‘Hai Bangalore’ Editor, Ravi Belagere was arrested by City crime Branch (CCB) and later admitted to a private hospital here in Dharwad after he fell ill following chest pain on Saturday morning.
Earlier, Karnataka state assembly speaker, KB Koliwad based on a state legislature committee report sentenced the journalist for one year and ordered to pay Rs 10, 000 as fine for breach of privilege of an assembly member after he published derogatory remarks, content in his tabloid against a legislative assembly member.
CCB police team reached Dharwad from Bengaluru on June 24 and arrested Ravi following an order. However, due to his ill health the CCB team camped near the hospital and is expected to shift another location once he recovers from his ill health.
Speaking on the arrest order by Karnataka government, Ravi Belagere said that he would fight against the decision taken by the assembly in the higher courts. Ravi Belagere claimed that he has right to publish content against the government, politicians and no one has right to punish or stop him from writing. Present state government would vanish once it completes its tenure, senior journalist opined.
