CCTV footage shows cops using tear gas shell in city hospital

Mangaluru: CCTV footage of police personnel barging and ransacking a city hospital went viral on social media on Thursday, December 19.
The incident is said to have taken place at Highland Hospital around 6.50 pm.
According to sources, two of the victims killed in police firing – Jaleel Kudroli (49) and Nausheen Bengre (23) were brought to the hospital at around 5 pm where doctors declared them brought dead. As news of their death spread, a small crowd gathered at the hospital. When the police arrived at the hospital, a confrontation occurred between them and the protesters and stones were hurled at each other. Few patients and hospital staff who came to check on the commotion. The police, mistook them to be part of the protesters and barged into the hospital and started lathi charging everyone.
Two tear gas shells were hurled after which relatives of patients and attenders ran into the ICU and locked them inside. In the CCTV footage, police can be seen kicking doors of the ICU in an attempt to open it.
Following assurance from doctors that these people were not part of the protesters but relatives of patients and attenders, the police left the hospital premises.
