Mangaluru: Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) on Friday appealed to the youth to celebrate February 14 as “Parents’ Worship Day” instead of Valentine’s Day.

The Hindu Janajagriti Samiti has also requested the Police Commissioner not to allow Valentine’s Day celebrations in the city.

In a statement HJS said, In a culturally diverse nation like India, the practice of celebrating Valentine’s Day on February 14 has grown through the years. It is unfortunate that this Valentine’s Day is observed as a day of sexual harassment and tormenting young ladies. On this day, young people engage in risky behaviors like drug trafficking, smoking, drinking alcohol, and more all in the name of having a good time. In addition, a survey indicates that sales of contraceptives increase on this day.

The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has also asked the police to set up a special police force on Valentine’s Day to punish those who engage in inappropriate behavior in schools and colleges.
