Centre allocates additional 2,500KL of kerosene for Karnataka fishermen

New Delhi / Mangaluru: In a positive development for Karnataka’s traditional fishermen, the Union government has allocated additional 2,500 kilolitres (kL) of non-subsidized kerosene for the traditional fishing boats in the state for the current fiscal year.

Karnataka government, on December 31, 2022, had written to the Center for allocation of an additional quantity of non-subsidized PDS Kerosene for the special needs for the year 2022-23.

Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, in a communique, said that it has been decided to allocate 2,500 kL of non-subsidized PDS kerosene to the state of Karnataka. Earlier, the ministry had allocated 5472 kL including 2472 kL of initial allocation and 3,000 kL of additional allocation.

With this, the total allocation of non-subsidized kerosene to Karnataka for the FY 2022-23 stands at 7972 kL.

Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shobha Karandlaje welcomed the move for releasing additional kerosene for Karnataka. The central government has responded to the needs of the coastal traditional fishermen, who depend on the sea for their livelihood, for additional allocation of kerosene. she said.

Further, Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje thanked Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for considering the request of Karnataka’s fishermen.
