Bengaluru: The Higher Education Department in Karnataka has decided to drop as many as 50 questions from the evaluation process for the Common Entrance Test (CET) 2024, following concerns raised by students and parents.

The Department has clarified that there will be no re-examination conducted for CET-2024.

CET-2024, conducted on April 18 and 19, sparked anxiety among over three lakh students and their families due to questions that were asked outside the syllabus prescribed by KSEAB. Responding to the widespread outcry, the Higher Education Department sought input from subject experts.

Based on the expert report, the department confirmed that 50 questions including 9 in Physics, 15 in Chemistry, 15 in Mathematics, and 11 in Biology, were beyond the prescribed syllabus. Consequently, these questions will be excluded from the evaluation process. Additionally, two questions were found to be incorrect and they will be allotted grace marks.

The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) will provide a list of non-syllabus questions to be omitted from the evaluation when publishing the answer keys. Only questions not on this list will be considered for evaluation, ensuring fairness and student welfare, according to Principal Secretary of the Higher Education Department, Srikar M. S.

The department has assured that CET exam results will be released in the last week of May as scheduled. However, the evaluation will be based on 190 marks, as a total of 50 questions are being dropped.

Furthermore, KEA has been instructed to establish a standard operating procedure for CET question paper preparation to prevent similar errors in the future.
