Bengaluru: The BJP high command has appointed Chalavadi Narayanaswamy as the Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council.
The position became vacant after Kota Srinivas Poojary, who was the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, was elected as the Member of Parliament from the Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency.
Recognizing the need for strong leaders in the Legislative Council, the BJP recently selected former MLA C.T. Ravi, who had been defeated in Chikkamagaluru, for the Council. However, until now, the party had not officially assigned the responsibility of the Leader of the Opposition.
In the midst of the monsoon session, the BJP has finally appointed Chalavadi Narayanaswamy as the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council.
This decision has disappointed aspirants for the position, including C.T. Ravi and Ravi Kumar. The BJP had witnessed internal competition for the position of Leader of the Opposition in the Council following the resignation of Kota Srinivas Poojary.
