Hanur (Chamarajanagar): Just a day after the horrific bus accident in Pavagada in Tumkur, another accident involving a private bus has been reported from Mangala -Kamagere here. A private bus fell into a ditch on the wayside on Sunday, injuring at least 10 passengers, sources said.
The bus named ‘Mahadeshwara’ was on its way to Mysuru from Malemahadeshwara hills. When it reached Mangala-Kamagere it skidded off the road and fell into a ditch.
The injured passengers were rushed to Kollegal Sub-divisional Hospital for medical treatment.
More details about the accident are awaited.
The bus accident has started a debate on road safety in the state. In the Pavagada incident on Saturday, the overspeeding and negligent driving by the bus driver was cited as the reason for the accident that killed 6 and injured more than 30. The fatalities were also attributed to the fact that the bus was overcrowded as there were very few buses plying on the route.
In the aftermath of the accident, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai instructed the transport minister to submit a detailed inquiry into the incident. He also promised strict actions against those who flout traffic rules.
