In a heart-wrenching incident, a woman abandoned her newborn baby in a dustbin at Mattipura bus stop near Kollegal here on Monday early morning.

The baby was luckily rescued by passersby and notified the police who rushed to the spot and handed over the baby to health department officials.

People were outraged at the mother for abandoning the two-day-old baby in a dustbin.

Meanwhile, the baby’s mother also reported the matter to the police saying that she is helpless and can’t raise the child. She claimed that her husband has deserted her and she did not have financial resources to raise the child.

After verifying the woman’s claims, the police handed her the baby with a warning not to harm the child till they find an adoptee. Police are coordinating with other departments in this regard. Kollegal Rural police are handling the case.
