Chamarajanagar: Man sentenced to 20 RI for sexually assaulting minor girl

Chamarajanagar: A child-friendly 1st Additional District and Sessions Court on Friday sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment under the POCSO Act for sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl.
The convict has been identified as Mahesh (28), a resident of Yelandur town in the district. He was accused of sexually assaulting a minor girl on September 30, 2019.
Yelandur town police station circle inspector A.K. Rajesh had registered a case against the accused and filed a chargesheet in the court under the POCSO Act.
After examining the evidence presented, the city’s child-friendly court and additional district and sessions judge Nisharani convicted Mahesh and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. The court also directed the District Legal Services Authority to pay a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the victim within 30 days.
