Mysuru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s seat of re-election, Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency, recorded a voter turnout of 76.05% on Saturday. It is higher than the 73.90% recorded in 2013. Out of the total electorate of 2,95,815 voters, almost 2,24,968 voters participated in the polling process. During the 2013 elections, the total electorate was 2,39,448 while only 1,76,962 votes had been polled.

The election in Chamundeshwari was touted to be a full-on competition between Mr. Siddaramaiah and his friend-turned-foe JD(S) candidate G.T. Deve Gowda. But there were no glitches or quarrels reported and the polling was mostly peaceful. The election was held in 335 booths in the constituency from 7 am to 6 pm.

There were long queues outside the polling booths in Gungral Chatra, which is Gowda’s native place, and in Siddalingapura. In Hale Kesare, voters began a protest alleging that the poll officials had not given them the voting slips as they were presumed to be supporters of a certain political party. Later, police managed to disperse the crowd and the polling continued peacefully.
