Kochi: The Kerala Hindu Aikya Vedi president has threatened to stall the release of BR Shetty’s much-awaited Rs.1,000 crores big-budget film, The Mahabharata.

If M.T. Vasudevan Nair’s Randamoozham is made into a film, it should be titled the same and not The Mahabharata. But if it is named The Mahabharata, then it should be based on The Mahabharata penned by Veda Vyasa.” K.P. Sasikala, State president of the Hindu Aikya Vedi, has said at a function in Kochi on Monday.

There had been many interpretations of the text and people were free to do it, but the film based on such interpretations could not take the name of the text that was held in reverence by a community, she said.

She further added that she would not allow the release of the movie in the state of Kerala if the team plans to retain the name The Mahabharata instead of Randamoozham.
