Mangaluru: Government Wenlock Hospital was engulfed in chaos after two groups of the family of a deceased woman exchanged words over the death and funeral of the deceased on Thursday, August 30. The woman in question had lost her life after giving birth to her child.

The deceased woman has been identified as Deepika Acharya (27), resident of Karkala

Incident synopsis

On August 29th, Deepaka was admitted to the hospital because of high blood pressure. Since her condition was serious, the doctors performed caesarean operation. Deepika gave birth to a baby boy and immediately passed away.

Post Deepika’s demise, her parents accused her husband Prakash Acharya and his family of negligence. They demanded that Deepika’s mortal remains be handed over to them. But the family members of Prakash Acharya rejected the demand.

Consequently many community members also arrived at the hospital to mediate, but both the families only continued cursing and shouting at each other. Finally the relatives of Prakash demanded the ornaments Deepika was wearing when she died.

After receiving a complaint, Pandeshwar police arrived at the hospital and dispersed the crowd. The two parties are currently working on a settlement in the presence of the police.
