Sullia: An announcement made by Hassan Deputy Commissioner Rohini Sindhuri, on Tuesday, regarding allowing of light vehicular movement on the Shiradi Ghat stretch of National Highway 75 from Wednesday afternoon onwards led to a chaotic situation at Gundya check post today.

The confusion, arose since several motorists took to this route following media reports of the ghat section being opened. However, the personnel posted at the Gundya check post, it is learnt, had not received any order regarding allowing of vehicular movement on the Ghat section and thus were stopping all vehicles. Few vehicles that were allowed to enter the ghat section by the Maranahalli check-post personnel were also stopped at Gundya check-post citing the vehicle ban orders.

What traversed later was total chaos, as motorists started screaming at the check-post personnel for pulled them up citing media reports regarding the opening of the ghat. Few even threatened to complain to the higher-ups in police department. It is learnt from sources that the personnel allowed the vehicles to exit the ghat section later, but denied entry to cars coming from Mangaluru side.

Orders for the closure of ghat section from August 16 to 25, which was extended later had been issued by Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner following the landslips in the region. The Uppinangady police were entrusted with the task of managing the outpost.
