Charmadi ditch-bridge retaining wall damaged

Belthangady: There is a small bridge over the Charmadi brook along B.C. Road-Charmadi highway and few days back, an unknown vehicle has hit the iron rods of the bridge during one night and created a dangerous situation.

Currently, the highway department has placed a barricade at this location and tied a plastic ribbon to signify the danger. Even then, if vehicles come close to the side of the bridge, the danger only increases. Previously, a vehicle has also toppled into a drain near this location.

Since Shiradi Ghat is closed for repair work, vehicles plying towards Hassan-Bengaluru are compelled to make use of this road. Hence there is a higher density of vehicle here and if edge of the road collapses, there is the danger of the highway traffic getting stranded.

Presently, even though a new bridge has been sanctioned for Charmadi brook, it has not yet been constructed.

Request for repair

The localities have requested the department to move forward and repair the retaining wall before any incident occurs.
