Charmadi Ghat opens for light vehicles today

Mangaluru: Charmadi Ghat, one of the crucial links connecting the coast with rest of the State was opened for light motor vehicles and passenger carriers on Sunday.

The has District administration informed that Charmadi ghat will be opened only for movement of light motor vehicles.

The ghat section had been closed for traffic following extremely heavy rainfall witnessed in and around Kottigehara region on the night of August 9 [over 500 mm], uphill Charmadi, has had a cascading effect both on the eastern and western sides of the Western Ghats.

Charmadi ghat is part of National Highway-73, Mangaluru-Villupuram and is the crucial thoroughfare between the coast and central Karnataka districts.
