Cheating with promise of overseas employment: arrested

Mangaluru: A person accused of cheating a number of persons to the extent of several lacs of rupees by promising to provide employment for them overseas has been arrested by the police personnel from Bunder Station.

The arrested has been identified as Raveendra Shetty, head of Western Associates, functioning from first floor of Kerala Samajam building on K S Rao Road in the city. It is said that Shetty fleeced Suman V. from Kallige Mundaje in Bantwal taluk and several others.

An advertisement announcing employment opportunities in a ship named Lincoln Royal Cross was published by Shetty. Suman V visited his office and expressed interest in this job, Shetty reportedly told her that she would have to pay 6,000 rupees towards medical test and other expenses before availing the job. After she remitted the money, he asked her to appear for an examination being conducted on June 10th, 2017 at a private college, where he again reportedly collected 15,356 rupees from her.

On July 7th, Shetty advised her to go to a spot to get the result where he again demanded 38,000 rupees. On receiving the payment, Shetty told Suman to visit Bengaluru for further scrutiny where he again collected Rs 38,000 from her.

Later, Shetty promised to send her visa details but failed to communicate with her thereafter. Even when Suman approached his office, he is said to have given evasive replies, claiming that he was yet to hear from the person connected the shipping company. Finally, Suman filed a complaint at Bunder police station.

Investigation revealed that Raveendra had cheated several youngsters nad students by releasing fake advertisements and luring them with attractive employment offer in the name of a company named Lincoln that never existed. Interrogation of the accused is still on going to secure further details from him.
