In an incident of moral policing reported from Chikkaballapur, a group allegedly abused and assaulted a youth after he was found in the company of a girl belonging to another community here on Thursday.
The victims, who are classmates had gone to the Gopika Chat outlet to have snacks when the group allegedly confronted the youth for being with a girl belonging to their religion. A video of the group abusing and assaulting the boy has gone viral on social media.
Meanwhile, the youth’s friend initially confronted the gang for their violent behaviour and questioned their authority to indulge in moral policing. However, she too allegedly succumbed to their pressure and the gang recorded a video wherein she apologises saying that she committed a mistake.
District Superintendent of Police DL Nagesh told Udayavani that the police had not received any complaint about the incident. “As soon as the matter came to our notice, we instructed Chikkaballapur police to trace the accused seen in the footage and take action against them… The police department will take strict action against the involved accused,” he said.
