Chikkamagalur: Lawyer-police clash; Govt orders CID probe

The state government has handed over the investigation into the lawyer assault case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Mangalore Division Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chandragupta informed the press on Sunday. Lawyer Pritam faced assault at the city police station for not wearing a helmet while riding a bike. Six policemen have been arrested in connection with the case, and four separate cases have been filed against the lawyer.
Police personnel and their families staged a protest on Saturday night, demanding the registration and arrest of the lawyer who obstructed their duty. In response, four separate cases have been filed against lawyers, including Pritam, who was assaulted.
Bengaluru Lawyers Association Appeals to CM for SIT Bengaluru
The Bengaluru Lawyers Association has written a letter to the Chief Minister and the Home Minister of the state, urging that the case of the police protest at Chikkamagaluru police station be investigated by a special squad. The association demands the immediate transfer of the IGP, SP, and DySP who failed to take appropriate action against the policemen involved in assaulting lawyers, as well as the immediate suspension of the police officers participating in the sit-in.
