Chikkamagaluru: Bodies of 3 tourists who drowned in Bhadra river found

Chikkamagaluru: The bodies of three persons who drowned in the backwaters of the Bhadra River at Byrapura village in NR Pura taluk here was recovered on Thursday.

The deceased have been identified as Adil, Sajid, and Afdakhan, all residents of Vidyanagar in Shivamogga district.

On Wednesday, four friends from Vidyanagar in Shivamogga arrived here. While three of the tourists had taken a coracle, their other friend stood on the shore. The tragedy struck when the coracle capsized.

Locals along with police and fire brigade personnel arrived at the scene to conduct rescue operations. However the search for the individuals, who were feared drowned was called off due to darkness. Subsequently, on Thursday, local residents and fire personnel conducted rescue operations again and brought the bodies of the three deceased to the surface.

The bodies have been shifted to Muthinakoppa mortuary in N.R. Pura taluk.
