Chikkamagaluru: Lawyers staged a protest in front of the police station here late last night alleging that police assaulted one of their colleagues.

The lawyer, Preetham claimed that he was pulled by cops for not wearing a helmet while riding his bike. The cops assaulted him when he refused to pay the fine and snatched his bike key. He was also taken to the police station, he alleged.

Reportedly, Preetham sustained injuries on his chest, back, and hands and has been admitted to a hospital.

Upon coming to know of the incident, fellow lawyers gathered in front of the city police station to protest against the police action and demanded action be initiated against the guilty. District Superintendent of Police Dr Vikram Amate visited the spot.

The DSP has issued an order suspending six police personnel involved in the incident. Meanwhile, the district bar association has demanded the arrest of six policemen.
