Chikkamagaluru: In a bizarre incident on Tuesday (August 13), a youth who disguised himself in a burqa to beg in the city was caught and beaten up by locals.
The youth, who had painted his nails and carried a knife, was apprehended by the public while roaming around the city’s Mallandur Road. Suspicious of his behavior, the locals detained him.
The youth, later identified as Harish from Balehonnur, was caught when people noticed his fingers and feet, which raised doubts. Dressed exactly like a woman in a burqa, he was beaten severely by the crowd.
Harish claimed that he wore the burqa to beg. However, the fact that he was carrying a knife inside the burqa raised further suspicion, and he was handed over to the police.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Harish had purchased the burqa in Balehonnur. Basavanahalli police have questioned the youth and produced him before the Tehsildar court.
