Udupi/Kota: Cine actor Prakash Raj awarded with ‘Karantha Huttura Prashasti’ amid protests in an event held at Kota Karanth Bhavana here on Tuesday. Earlier, controversy had erupted over the award ceremony as BJP and many Hindu outfits in Karnataka opposed the selection of Prakash Raj for the award as he allegedly made derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently which would have spoiled communal harmony in the country.

Members of various Hindu outfits including Hindu Jagarana Vedike (HJV), Akhila Karnataka Jogi Samaja Seva Samithi, BJP workers, leaders and others were registered their silent protest at various parts of Kota just prior to the award ceremony here on Tuesday. Members of HJV wore black shirts while many others hold silent procession in Kota to express their dissatisfaction on the award ceremony.

Meanwhile, many workers, leaders including Karnataka Jogi Samaja Seva Samithi president Keshava Koteshwara, Jai Bhargava Organisation convener Ajith Shetty Kirady, BJP leaders Yashpal Suvarna, Naveen Shetty Kuthyaru and others were taken into custody by the police as they tried to hold their protest near venue of the award ceremony.

Meanwhile, members of some associations, organisations supported Prakash Raj and handed over him a boutique to invite him into the dais.
