Mangaluru: Buoyed by the success of their first Yakshagana performance ‘Arbudasura garvabhangha’, to create cancer awareness among people, city doctors are all geared to stage the Yakshagana performance yet again on June 9.

On the occasion of World Cancer Day, doctors from the city on February 4 made use the folk art form to sensitise the public about cancer and to wean away people from tobacco use. The event was well-received by the public and it is on popular demand that the second such event will be held at Nandaneshwara temple in Panambur from 6 pm to 9 pm on Sunday, June 9

The event is being jointly organised by Naguva Nagisuva Geleyaru, the Mangalore chapter of IMA, Yakshanandana and PV Aithal English Yakshagana Balaga.

Addressing media persons here on Wednesday, Dr Annayya Kulal from Indian Medical Association said that the doctors will explain the causes of cancer, symptoms and treatment through the Yakshagana performance.

Kulal added that if cancer is detected in its initial stages it could be treated completely and hence awareness will play a major role.

Dr Sachidananda Rai, president IMA, Mangaluru Chapter, Ravishankar Karanth, president and Dr P Sathiyamoorthy Aithal, vice-president of Naguva Nagisuva Geleyaru were present.
