City has the highest no of Dengue, Malaria cases

- Increase in Malaria affliction in 2 months
Mangaluru: There is a drastic increase in the number of Malaria cases in Dakshina Kannada (DK) district in the span of just 2 months! If there were 1,519 malaria cases in the month of June, in August month the number increased to 2, 723. On this basis the total number of malaria afflicted patients in the month of July and August totals up to 1,204.
This year, the highest number of malaria cases has been recorded in the city itself. Till June, if there were 1,389 cases of malaria by August, the number increased to 2,643. Of these cases, 2,508 cases come within Mangaluru City Corporation’s (MCC) limits and the remaining 135 cases come under Mangaluru taluk limits. Even when the Health Department is conducting awareness to prevent the spread of Malaria, it is frightening to see the increase in the number of malaria cases.
Zero malaria cases in Sullia
According to the information provided by Health Department staff, since January to August 31st, the number of malaria cases within MCC limits is 2,508, Mangaluru taluk 135, Bantwal 25, Puttur 39 and in Belthnagady 16 cases. However, there has been zero malaria cases recorded in Sullia taluk.
More dengue cases in Mangaluru rural areas
Since January to September 6th, 476 people have been afflicted with dengue in the district. There are 52 in MCC limits, 96 in Mangaluru rural area, 90 in Bantwal, 85 in Puttur, 95 in Belthangady and 58 dengue cases identified in Sullia. 360 cases were identified by June month and in the span of 75 days, another 116 cases were identified.
