Mangaluru/Udupi: In order to balance the holidays given in the backdrop of the heavy rains and flooding in the regions, the district public education department has given the directions to hold additional classes on Saturday or Sunday.

In the backdrop of torrential rains, the district administration had given continuous holidays to schools as a safety precaution for the students. The students had been given 5 days’ continuous holidays during this period. But since these holidays has left the lessons pending, directions have been given to conduct additional classes on Saturday or Sunday with the aim to make up for the lost time. Last year too, when holidays were announced due to incessant rains, additional classes were similarly held during the weekends.

More attention to students affected by floods

According to the notice from the public education department, the additional classes may be started after life comes under control. There is no need to insist that students attend classes in cases where the road r bridge has been washed away and there is no connectivity. Besides, in areas affected by flood, attention must also be given towards the health of the students.

Classes after the school inspection

The department has informed that at flood affected areas, the school building needs to be checked by an engineer to check if it’s stable only after which the classes may be started.

Decision within three days

If additional classes are to be held on Saturday, classes will be held in the afternoon of the said day. No decision has been taken on whether it will be Saturday or Sunday. The decision regarding this will be informed within 3 days, informed the DDPI.
