Bengaluru: In a cabinet meeting, held on December 30, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has reportedly advised his cabinet colleagues to not attack DK Shivakumar over the issue of Jesus statue.

According to a source, Yediyurappa expressed fear that such statements could backfire on the BJP as it could alienate the Christian community, which presently is not very averse to the BJP besides helping DK Shivakumar to mobilise his vote bank in order to prove that he’s worthy of KPCC presidentship.

The chief minister reportedly asked his minister to highlight irregularities, if any, in the construction of the statue and to not oppose the construction of a statue on religious grounds.

DK Shivakumar had started a controversy after he laid the foundation stone on December 25 for a 114 feet statue of Jesus at Kapala Betta.
