Bengaluru: After K.R. Ramesh Kumar was elected as the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara and Leader of the Opposition B.S. Yeddyurappa congratulated him. BJP nominee Suresh Kumar also appreciated the Speaker and felt that he would do a good job since he served the post from 1994-1999. The House asserted confidence that the Speaker would discharge his duties and successfully manage the alliance government.
Later, Ramesh Kumar addressed the House and thanked the members for electing him. He appealed to the House to uphold the values of democracy and parliamentary protocol. He also reminded the legislators that they were elected as representatives of the people, and therefore, had to act accordingly.
At around 1:50 pm, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy began his address to propose the trust vote. He took digs at the BJP saying the Opposition felt that the people’s mandate belonged to them. He made references to the 2004 elections and its subsequent developments. He also confidently declared that his government would complete the full term of five years.
